Milwaukee, Wis. - The struggle continued for the UIC men's basketball team on Saturday night as the Flames dropped their sixth straight outing, a 70-49 decision at UW-Milwaukee.
UIC fell to 9-14 on the season and 3-7 in Midwestern Collegiate Conference play with the defeat. UW-Milwaukee, which avenged a 112-106 quardruple overtime loss to the Flames earlier this season with the win, improved to 13-10 overall and 5-5 in the MCC.
Despite shooting just 27.3% from the field in the first half, the Flames managed to hang close with UW-Milwaukee. UIC turned the ball over just three times and held a 19-17 advantage on the boards to trail by five at the break, 28-23.
The Panthers, however, quickly put the game away in the second half as they opened the final period with a 22-5 run to hold a 50-28 lead with 11:25 to play.
UIC, whose offense was hampered once again by multiple missed lay-ups and put-backs as has been the case during the six-game losing streak, could get no closer than 18 points down the stretch.
"In the first half, I thought it was going to be a pretty good game - we were in it despite shooting 27% from the field," Head Coach Jimmy Collins said. "But it turned out not to be because in the second half, we got selfish and had guys taking selfish shots while they picked up their intensity and continued to hit their long-range bombs."
Clay Tucker, who led UW-Milwaukee long-range attack with four three-pointers, topped all scorers with 18 points while Jason Frederick put in 17 points off the bench.
Rookie Aaron Carr's 11 points led the Flames, who had their five starters total just 27 points.
UIC will look to snap out of its shooting slump and losing streak at Detroit on Thursday, Feb. 15.
