Chicago, Ill. - Senior Cheryl Rubinger shattered the school-record in the all-around with a performance of 39.325 to help host UIC to the 194.15-193.725 victory over Ball State at the Physical Education Building on Saturday.

Rubinger tallied a score of 39.250 in the Flames 194.025-189.050 victory over Air Force last week.

"It's outstanding," UIC women's gymnastics coach Peter Jansson said. "She's competing just like she's working out. She's hitting everything in practice and she's doing all of the right things."

Rubinger earned first-place finishes on the floor exercise (9.875), uneven bars (9.850) and the balance beam (9.875). She was a runner-up on the vault with a 9.725.

Jansson was quite impressed with his team's performance despite injuries to Chrissy Johnston, Erica Varner, Jaclyn Messerges and Sara Casica.

"We lose 11 potential starting routines with Chrissy, Erica, Sara and Jackie out," Jansson said. "You got to fill all of those spots and we managed to improve.

"It brought out some toughness in other people and they stepped up and did what we wanted to do."

UIC (3-1) received personal bests from several gymnasts.

Nadia Ori: floor exercise (9.850), uneven bars (9.775),Atlin Mitchell: floor exercise (9.825), vault (9.650), balance beam (9.775)Tina Gregori: uneven bars (9.750)Megan Fey: uneven bars (9.475), vault (9.625)Amy August: balance beam (9.875)Kimberly Sommer: balance beam (9.850)
