Oak Park, Ill. - The UIC women's tennis team snapped its three-match losing streak on Saturday afternoon as they rolled past Bowling Green, 6-1, at the Oak Park Racquet and Fitness Club.
With the win, the Flames improve to 3-4 on the season while the Falcons drop to 1-5 with the loss.
UIC took five of the six singles matches versus BGSU while also taking the doubles points for just the second time this season.
In singles action, senior Jacki Farr, the reigning Midwestern Collegiate Conference Player of the Year, earned her second win of the spring in the No. 2 match 6-0, 6-1 over Abby Bratton. Junior Alyson Stalzer (6-3, 6-4/No. 5), who has now won three of her last four matches, along with Kim Harris (6-4, 6-4/No. 6) were also straight set winners. Ayca Gumuscu (7-6, 4-6, 6-3/No. 3) and Zvjezdana Malesevic (5-7, 6-4, 6-1) both earned hard fought three-set wins for UIC.
On the doubles end, the Flames picked up their first victory of the spring in the No. 1 match as Nicole Derouin and Gumuscu teamed for an 8-3 triumph over Bratton and Tracy Howitt. Farr and Karen Liwanpo were also victorious in the No. 2 contest, winning 8-3 over Erika Wasilewski and Lisa Maloney.
UIC will look to make it two-in-a-row tomorrow as they welcome Eastern Illinois to Oak Park at 1:00 p.m.
