Final Stats
Chicago, Ill. - The UIC soccer team continued its winning ways against programs from the State of Illinois on Sunday afternoon with a 7-2 rout of the Eastern Illinois Panthers. The Flames have now won 20 straight games dating back to the 1997 season versus schools from the Land of Lincoln.
UIC's seven goals were also the most it's scored since a 7-2 win over Bradley during the 1991 campaign.
The Flames, who also ran their home winning streak to eight straight with the victory, got on the scoreboard first just six minutes into the match as Dennis King (Colona, Ill./United Township) set up Patrick Grange (Albuquerque, NM/Albuquerque) for his first goal of the afternoon and fifth of the year.
Eastern Illinois (4-3-0) came back 21 minutes later to tie it up at 1-1 on Derrick Perry's ninth goal of the campaign. However, back-to-back goals by Josh Robinson (Elgin, Ill./St. Charles) and King before the halftime break put UIC on top 3-1 and sealed the win for the Flames, who have now won five straight after starting out 0-3.
Grange tallied his second goal of the game less than five minutes into the final period to give UIC a 4-1 lead before the Panthers' Julian Chang converted on his fifth goal of the year to make it 4-2 in favor of the Flames. The rest of the half, however, belonged to UIC, which outshot Eastern Illinois 11-6 in the final period. Reserves Ross Felten (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West), Chris Pipis (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) and Jay Lindgren (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) all buried their first goals of the season to round out the UIC goal scorers.
King, who picked up his second game-winning tally of the year, finished the afternoon with five points on one goal and three assists to pace the Flames while Grange, Robinson and Jake Stasko (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way) all enjoyed multiple-point afternoons.
UIC (5-3-0) returns to the soccer field on Wednesday, Oct. 3, when it heads to Madison, Wis., to face Wisconsin at 7:00 p.m. Next home action for the Flames isn't until Thursday, Oct. 11, when they host Northern Illinois at 2:00 p.m.
