San Antonio, Texas - The UIC men's basketball team won its fourth straight game and improved to 5-1 on the year with a 73-47 victory at Texas-San Antonio on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Cedrick Banks led the Flames with a game-high 20 points while adding seven rebounds, five assists and three steals. Senior Armond Williams also had a strong performance, finishing with 18 points and eight rebounds. Senior Rickey Dominguez tallied career-best numbers with nine points and four rebounds.
Rapheal Posey paced the Roadrunners (1-3) with 16 points.
UIC contolled the boards on Saturday, outrebounding UTSA, 39-18, including a 14-5 margin on the offensive glass. The Flames also turned 21 Roadrunner turnovers into 28 points.
UIC trailed by as many as six points early in the first half, but a Banks three-pointer at the 9:06 mark in the first half gave the Flames a 19-16 lead that would grow to 38-27 by intermission. Three separate surges in the second half helped UIC push its lead to as many as 28, before the final whistle blew with the Flames holding a 26-point advantage.
The Flames shot 50% from the field for the game and 88% (14-for-16) from the foul line versus UTSA.
UIC will continue its four-game road trip on Tuesday, when they travel to Charleston, Ill., to take on Eastern Illinois at 7:30 p.m.
