Men's Basketball Is Red Hot

Charleston, Ill. - The UIC men's basketball team won its fifth straight game and continued its dominance against in-state rivals on Tuesday night with a 77-60 victory at Eastern Illinois.

The Flames (6-1) have now won their last 10 games versus state schools and are 17-3 in their last 20 contests against in-state opponents.

Senior Aaron Carr paced four UIC players in double-figures on Tuesday night with a season-high 20 points. Senior forward Armond Williams collected his first double-double of the year with 15 points and 13 rebounds while seniors Martell Bailey (12 points, 8 assists) and Cedrick Banks (16 points, 5 rebounds) also had strong outings for the Flames.

Josh Gomes led the Panthers (0-3) with 19 points.

UIC owned a 38-33 lead at intermission behind Carr's 15 first-half points.

The Panthers were still withing five points with, 54-49, with just over eight minutes remaining, but a 12-0 Flames run over the next four minutes would put the game out of reach. UIC would shoot 58% in the second half, outscoring EIU 39-27 in the period.

The Flames dominated the glass, outrebounding the Panthers, 43-27.

UIC will look to continue its winning ways this weekend as they compete in the Hawkeye-Gazette challenge hosted by the University of Iowa. The Flames open the two-day tournament on Friday night by taking on Northern Illinois at 5:45 p.m.
