Iowa City, Iowa - The UIC men's basketball team bounced back from a tough loss last night in the opening round of the Gazette Hawkeye Challenge, posting a 67-52 victory over Eastern Washington on Saturday in the consolation game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
Senior forward Armond Williams led three Flames (7-2) in double figures with 19 points, while also adding five rebounds. Cedrick Banks chipped in with 13 points while senior Martell Bailey fell just shy of his first double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and nine assists.
Sophomore Justin Bowen also had a strong game for UIC, tallying career bests of six points and four rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench.
Alvin Snow paced the Eagles (2-5) with a game-high 21 points.
The Flames trailed 36-34 with just over 14 minutes remaining in the contest, but a 17-4 UIC run over the next four minutes gave them an 11-point lead they would never relinquish. Bailey keyed the surge with eight points and three assists.
The win on Saturday wraps up a touhg road stretch for the Flames, which saw them open the year with eight-of-nine games away from home. UIC will return to the Pavilion on Saturday, Dec. 13th, when they return to action by taking on Illinois State at 5:00 p.m.
