Women's Tennis Dominates Drake, 6-1

Feb. 24, 2003

Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's tennis team is already heating up, and the thermometers are still hovering around the freezing mark.

After a 6-1 drubbing of Drake on Sunday, it could be scary to see what the Flames will do once they get outdoors when the temperature is a bit toastier.

"This was a very solid win for us," said head coach Shannon Tully. "Everyone is stepping for us right now, and I am very impressed with the effort this team is giving everyday."

UIC (7-5) took five of six singles matches, and at that point, Drake defaulted the doubles point to give the Flames the 6-1 outcome.

Nicole Derouin continued her torrid pace, defeating Annali de Bruyn, 6-3, 6-4 in the No.1 singles match.

Corey Steven (No.3), Zvjezdana Malesevic (No.4) and Molly Smith (No.5) each picked-up singles victories for the Flames, while the No.6 singles match was given to UIC by default.

The Flames return to action on Sunday, March 2, when they host Horizon League foe Wright State at 8:30 a.m. at the Hyde Park Tennis Club.
