Chicago, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago senior Cedrick Banks was honored on Thursday afternoon as he earned a spot on the 2004 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 11 Second Team.
The 150 athletes from 15 divisions chosen are now eligible for NABC All-America honors, which are announced at the conclusion of the 2003-04 season.
Banks, the 2003-04 Preseason Horizon League Player of the Year, is UIC's top scorer for the third straight season, averaging 18.9 ppg, which rates him third in the league. He is also tops in the league in three-point field goal percentage, 12th nationally, connecting of 46% of his attempts. The 6-foot-2 guard isn't just a scorer, though, as he rates second on the Flames in assists (2.0 apg) and fourth in rebounding (3.5 rpg).
Banks has guided UIC to a 19-7 record, one victory shy of reaching the 20-win plateau for a school record third consecutive season. The Flames are also currently in second place in the Horizon League with a 10-4 mark.
Banks was one of two Horizon League players on the All-District 11 squad as UW-Milwaukee's Dylan Page garnered first team honors. Devin Harris of Wisconsin, Kris Humphries of Minnesota, Paul Davis of Michigan State and Travis Diener of Marquette joined Page on the first team.
Banks, along with Jitim Young of Northwestern, Mike Williams of Western Michigan, Mike Wilkinson of Wisconsin and Deron Williams of Illinois made the second team.
