Chicago, Ill.- The Horizon League dominance continued for the UIC women's tennis team on Sunday as the Flames blanked Youngstown State, 7-0, at the UIC Indoor Courts.
The Flames (11-6, 6-0 Horizon League) grabbed the doubles point and never looked back as they swept every singles match from the Penguins (8-7, 2-2 Horizon League).
Beatriz Cabrera won her fifth straight by taking out Whitney Thomas, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Cabrera also teamed with Corey Steven to escape with a tough 8-6 win over Gina Peretti and Karen Najbert.
Steven pitched in a strong 6-1, 6-1 win over Nicole Muzechuk for her fourth straight singles victory.
Ayca Gumuscu looked solid in a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles over Heather Hagood, while Iris Jaklin won a 6-4, 6-0 match over Najbert.
Molly Smith extended her singles winning streak to nine matches with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Peretti at the No. 5 slot, while Melanie Humphrey grabbed a solid 6-0, 6-1 win over Andrea Dixon.
UIC takes on crosstown rival DePaul at the UIC Outdoor Courts this Wednesday, April 7th at 2 p.m.
