Green Bay, Wis. - The UIC volleyball team slipped into a three-way tie for first place in the Horizon League on Friday night after getting swept at UW-Green Bay, 30-28, 30-27, 30-26. The Flames are now 6-2 in league play, 10-13 overall, and join Cleveland State and UW-Milwaukee on top of the standings.
The Flames led in game one 17-14 until UW-Green Bay (12-10, 4-4) rallied back with a 7-1 run to take the advantage. The Phoenix then held UIC to capture the 30-28 win.
UIC and the Phoenix closely battled in game two. The Flames and UWGB were tied at 23-23, but a few hitting errors by UIC and a putaway by the Phoenix gave UWGB the 30-27 victory.
UW-Green Bay jumped out to a 20-11 lead in game three. UIC rallied to cut the advantage to only two points (27-25), but the Phoenix would regroup to hold off the Flames, 30-26, to end the match.
Maura McCarthy nabbed a career-high 22 digs and added another eight kills on the night. Katie Kozak tallied 38 assists and Katarina Nedeljkovic totaled 15 kills.
Jackie Rosen paced the Phoenix with a double-double effort, finishing the match with 17 kills and 13 digs.
The Flames will now head to UW-Milwaukee on Saturday for a first-place battle with Panthers at 7:00 p.m.
