Chicago, Ill.-Shooting 64 percent from three-point land and 49.1 percent from the field, the UIC women's basketball team rolled past Chicago State, 80-62. Four UIC players scored in double-digits with junior Krystal Hugelier leading the pack with 18 points and seven boards on the night.
Junior LaShonda Grant grabbed 15 points, senior Chrissy Dizon chipped in 14 points and three steals and junior Jacquay Holmes picked up a career-high with 13 points in UIC's win.
Chicago State guard Tina Hill paced the Cougars with 17 points and Chandra Timberlake added 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Flames jumped ahead of the Cougars in the first half, hitting three straight treys in the first three minutes. UIC controlled the half, shooting 100 percent from the line, hitting eight three pointers and knocking down 16 of 30 from the field.
The Flames headed to the locker room with a 43-27 lead at the half. The Cougars only shot 25 percent from the field and behind the arc.
Chicago State sparked a 7-0 run with 12:01 on the clock to only trail by 11 in the second half, but the Flames turned on the heat and extended its lead to 21 points (67-46) with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation. The Cougars struggled on offense throughout the half and UIC clinched the 80-62 win.
"We have been playing excellent defense all season," Head Coach Lisa Ryckbosch said. "Tonight we executed on offense, moved and passed the ball around and played basketball like this team is capable of doing."
The victory moves the Flames to 3-6 on the season and will head to Cancun, Mexico for the 2005 Fun In The Sun Shootout tournament December 17-21. UIC will battle Missouri State Sunday, December 18th at 8:00 pm.
