Dec. 19, 2005

Final Stats

Playa Del Carmen, Mexico-After the floor conditions at the original venue caused the 2005 Fun In The Sun Shootout to be postponed yesterday, the UIC women's basketball team battled Missouri State in the first round of the tournament tonight at 8:45 pm. UIC was edged by the Lady Bears 64-60.

Flames junior Jackie Parker posted a career and game-high 16 points. Nicole Rinaldi and Chrissy Dizon both chipped in eight points on the night.

The Lady Bears were led by Kari Koch with 24 points. Sarah Klaassen pulled down ten rebounds and 13 points and Tiff Terwelp added 16 points and 11 boards.

Scoreless in the first eight minutes of the first half, UIC knocked down seven straight points to grab a 7-0 advantage. The Lady Bears tied it up a 14-14 and quickly took a 21-19 lead on a jumper by Sarah Klaassen with 6:20 on the clock.

UIC got within one point on Jackie Parker's second trey of the half, but MSU headed into the locker room with a 28-27 lead.

Nicole Rinaldi put the Flames up by one on a layup early in the second half, but MSU then hit an 8-0 run with 14:59 remaining in regulation. Shooting 35 percent from behind the arch, LaShonda Grant and Jackie Parker hit two straight three pointers to give UIC a 41-40 lead, but the Flames couldn't hold on and MSU grabbed the 64-60 win.

UIC takes on Mount St Mary's tomorrow night at 6:45 pm for the consolation game. The Flames will return home after an 11-day break to tip-off Horizon League action on December 31st versus UW-Green Bay at 7:00 pm.
