Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team's bid for the title at the 2005 Chicagoland Challenge came up short on Saturday evening, as the Flames dropped a 31-29, 30-25, 30-28 decision to Northwestern in the championship match at the DePaul Athletic Center.
The Flames finished the tournament at 2-1 and are now 3-6 on the year. The Wildcats, meanwhile, took home the Chicagoland Challenge crown with a perfect 3-0 mark while improving to 6-1 overall this season.
Following the match, both junior Ambria Springer and sophomore Katarina Nedeljkovic were named to the Chicagoland Challenge All-Tournament Team.
In the match with Northwestern, Nedeljkovic tabbed a team-high 15 kills while Springer chipped in with 12 kills. Junior setter Katie Kozak registered 40 assists and nine digs in the loss.
The Wildcats were led to the title behind a 14-kill, 8-block performance from Cassie McLaughlin.
The Flames will be back in action on Tuesday, September 13th, when they travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., to take on Western Michigan at 6:00 p.m.
