Sept. 10, 2005

Box Score

Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team remained undefeated at the 2005 Chicagoland Challenge and made an early statement to a future Horizon League foe with a 31-29, 22-30, 30-20, 30-20 triumph over Loyola at the DePaul Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

The win was the second straight for the Flames, who moved to 3-5 on the year. The victory also snapped UIC's four-match losing streak to the Ramblers, who slipped to 0-6 this season.

Junior Ambria Springer paced the Flames for the second consecutive match, tallying 20 kills and four blocks. Sophomore Katarina Nedeljkovic added 14 kills and eight digs while sophomore libero Liz Hrebic tabbed a team-high 16 digs for UIC.

Keily Zins led Loyola with a double-double performance of 11 kills and 10 digs. The Ramblers endured a tough serving afternoon as a team, though, committing 18 service errors in the four games.

The Flames and Ramblers battled back-and-forth in game one with UIC outlasting Loyola by hitting .400 in frame for a 31-29 triumph. After the Ramblers bounced back to take the second game, 30-22, the Flames rolled to back-to-back 30-20 victories to end the match.

UIC will look for their first non-conference tournament title of the year later this evening when they take on Northwestern at 4:30 p.m. at the DePaul Athletic Center.
