Chicago, Ill. - The UIC men's basketball team had four players score in double figures on Sunday afternoon, but it was not enough to propel the Flames past Loyola, as the host Ramblers earned a 75-61 victory at the Gentile Center.
The loss drops UIC to 8-9 on the season and 1-4 in the Horizon League. The Flames have now lost four straight games for the first time since the 2000-01 campaign. Loyola snapped its four-game losing streak with the win and is now 10-6 overall and 2-4 in league play.
Sophomore Karl White led UIC with a season-high 12 points off the bench. Sophomore Othyus Jeffers totaled 11 points and eight rebounds while junior Jovan Stefanov (11 points, 7 rebounds) and freshman Josh Mayo (10 points) also reached double figures in the loss.
The Flames were unable to stop the one-two scoring punch of Blake Schilb and Majak Kou. The Rambler tandem combined for 48 points, shooting 20-for-33 from the field. Schilb finished with a game-high 27 points and six assists. Kou totaled 21 points, 16 of which came in the first half.
Loyola owned a nine-point lead at intermission (75-61) after shooting 56% from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
The Ramblers opened the second half with five straight points to push their advantage to 41-27 and UIC would get no closer than 11 the rest of the way.
The Flames will be back in action on Thursday, January 19th, when they return to the UIC Pavilion to take on Cleveland State at 7:00 p.m.
