Flames Fall To Phoenix, 77-58

Green Bay, Wis. - First-place UW-Green Bay topped UIC 77-58 at the Resch Center Thursday night. The Flames trailed the Phoenix by three points heading into halftime, but UW-Green Bay continued to produce on offense and grabbed its sixth straight Horizon League victory.

Flames guard LaShonda Grant paced UIC with 13 points and knocked down three treys versus the Phoenix. Center Nicole Rinaldi led UIC with five rebounds and Jackie Parker chipped in ten points.

Five Phoenix players scored in double digits with Nicole Soulis leading the pack with 17 points and eight boards. Natalie Berglin and Kayla Groh had 15 points apeice and Amanda Popp added ten points on the night.

Hitting three consecutive three pointers to start the first half, UIC led the Phoenix 9-2 early in the game. 57.1 percent from behind the arc, UW-Green Bay quickly tied it up and sparked an 11-point run to pull away from the Flames.

UIC responded with seven unanswered points to only trail UWGB 25-22 at the half.

The Flames knocked down another three treys to kick off the last 20 minutes of play to chip away at UW-Green Bay's advantage. On a jumper by Parker, UIC took a 39-38 lead with 15:29 on the clock.

The Flames got within ten points, but UW-Green Bay hit 15-of-24 from the field and 42.9 percent from three-point land in the second half to grab a 77-58 win.

UIC moves to 7-9 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Flames battle UW-Milwaukee on the road Saturday, January 21st at 3:00 pm be ing three straight at home.
