Indianapolis, Ind. - The UIC men's basketball team fell prey to Butler's red-hot shooting on Monday afternoon, as the host Bulldogs posted a 75-56 victory over the Flames at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
UIC had its two-game winning streak snapped with the loss and now sits at 8-6 on the year and 1-1 in Horizon League action. Butler, meanwhile, improved to 8-5, 1-0 in the league with the victory.
The Bulldogs shot 58% from the field in the contest, including a 63% effort in the second half. Senior Brandon Polk led four Butler players in double figures with a game-high 21 points.
Sophomore Othyus Jeffers tabbed 14 points and five boards to pace UIC while junior Jovan Stefanov came off the bench for 10 points and a game-high seven rebounds.
The Flames owned a 4-2 lead moments into Monday's contest, before a 16-2 Bulldog run put the home team ahead 18-6. UIC closed within four midway through the half, but Butler's advantage was back up to nine at intermission, 36-27.
After Jeffers opened the second stanza with a lay-in to trim the Bulldogs' lead to seven, Butler quickly pushed its advantage to 15 behind six points from Polk and never let its cushion slip back below double-digits.
UIC shot 44% from the field in the contest and out-rebounded the Bulldogs, 27-22.
The Flames will be back in action on Thursday when they play host to preseason Horizon League favorite UW-Milwaukee at 7:30 p.m. at the UIC Pavilion.
