Dayton, Ohio -The UIC men's basketball team held Wright State to just seven points in the final 14 minutes on Wednesday night as the Flames rallied back from a 15-point deficit to earn a 62-57 win over Wright State at the Nutter Center.
The Raiders (8-9, 4-3) led 50-35 early in the second half and 54-42 with 8:47 left, but would not tally a field goal the rest of the game.
The Flames (9-11, 2-6) turned up the defensive pressure on Wright State, forcing 15 turnovers in the final stanza. Ten of those miscues came during a key 15-1 UIC run that staked the Flames to a 57-55 lead they would not surrender.
Juniors Danijel Zoric (15 points, 6 rebounds) and Jovan Stefanov (14 points, 4 rebounds) combined for 29 points to lead UIC while sophomore Othyus Jeffers tabbed seven points to go with a game-high 11 rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Kevin Bond gave the Flames a spark off the bench in the second half with eight points, including a pair of three-pointers.
DaShaun Wood and Drew Burleson each scored 12 points to pace Wright State.
The Raiders had closed the first half on a 15-5 run to take a 37-28 lead into intermission. Wright State connected on six three-pointers in the opening stanza.
With the win, the Flames snapped a six-game losing streak, their longest such skid since the 2000-01 season.
UIC will be back in action on Saturday when it welcomes UW-Green Bay to the Pavilion at 3:00 p.m. The game will be aired live on Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
