Milwaukee, Wis.- The UIC men's tennis team played a second straight nailbiter against a BIG EAST foe, but this time the Flames made sure they put away their opponent as rookie Adriano Liccardo's No. 3 singles victory clinched a huge 4-3 win over host Marquette at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
UIC (1-2) received singles wins from Ivan Kovalev at the top spot and Andy Lockhart at No. 4 singles before Liccardo was able to down Brett Binkley at the third slot with a 6-4, 7-6(5) decision.
The Flames jumped out to an early one-point lead after securing the doubles point with a victory from Kovalev and Lockhart at No. 1 doubles and a win from the team of Paul Glendenning and Liccardo at the second spot.
UIC opens the indoor home slate on February 4th against Wayne State at the Hinsdale Racquet Club at 7:00 p.m.
