Chicago, Ill. - Butler senior Bruce Horan connected on seven three-pointers in the first half versus UIC on Monday night, as the Bulldogs raced out to an early lead and never looked back in a 67-39 victory over the Flames at the UIC Pavilion.
The loss snapped UIC's two-game winning streak, dropping the team to 10-12 on the season and 3-7 in Horizon League play. Butler, meanwhile, notched its third straight win to remain in second place in the league standings at 5-3, 12-8 overall.
Horan was on fire from the start, scoring all of his game-high 21 points in the opening period on 7-for-8 three-point shooting. He hit three triples in an early 19-4 Butler run that staked the Bulldogs to a 29-13 lead with 9:05 left in the first half.
UIC was unable to answer with a run of its own, trailing 44-20 at intermission and never getting the deficit below 20 in the second half.
Junior Danijel Zoric led the Flames with eight points while senior Justin Bowen added seven points and six rebounds.
Butler shot 56% from the field and 55% from three-point range in the game while limiting UIC to just 39% shooting.
UIC will look to get back on the right track on Thursday when they travel to meet Youngstown State at 6:30 p.m. CST.
