Chicago, Ill. - On the tail end of a grueling stretch of four games in eight days, the UIC men's basketball team came up on the short end of a 68-45 decision to preseason Horizon League favorite UW-Milwaukee on Thursday evening at the UIC Pavilion.
Senior Justin Bowen tallied 10 points and nine rebounds for the Flames (8-7, 1-2) while sophomore Othyus Jeffers chipped in with 11 points and six boards. Junior Jovan Stefanov tied his career high with 11 rebounds. The 6-foot-9 junior also added nine points and two assists.
Senior Joah Tucker paced the Panthers (10-3, 3-0) to their sixth straight victory with a game-high 20 points. Senior Boo Davis was also in double figures with 10. Senior Adrian Tigert tabbed eight points and 10 rebounds for UWM, which out-boarded the Flames, 52-42.
UIC struggled to find its groove offensively on Thursday, shooting 29% from the field. The Panthers converted 39% of their attempts.
Trailing by just two, 15-13, early in the first half, UW-Milwaukee used a 12-2 run to take a 12-point lead at the 6:44 mark. It was an advantage that would never dip below double figures.
The Flames, who finished 2-2 in their stretch of four games in eight days, will now have six days off before returning to the hardwood on Wednesday, January 11th at UW-Green Bay.
