Jan. 7, 2006

Final Stats

Indianapolis, Ind.-Shooting 63.6 percent from the field in the second half, the UIC women's basketball team rolled past Butler 83-64 at Hinkle Fieldhouse Saturday. Five Flames scored in double-digits and Junior Jacquay Holmes picked up a season-high, pulling down seven boards.

UIC has now won two straight games and sits at 2-1 in the Horizon League and 6-8 overall. Butler suffered its first league loss this season and owns a 6-7 overall ledger.

"We played team basketball and it was extremely exciting to watch and coach today," head coach Lisa Rychbosch explained. "We competed at an elite level for forty solid minutes and beat a very good Butler team."

Senior Chrissy Dizon and Junior LaShonda Grant knocked down 14 points apiece. Krystal Hugelier chipped in ten points and posted a game-high four steals.

Center Nicole Rinaldi and Holmes both added 12 points.

Butler's Lade Ayade paced the Bulldogs with 25 points and nine rebounds and Jackie Closser shot 3-for-nine from three-point land for 13 points.

Six unanswered points to start off the first half helped UIC to a powerful start on the road versus the Bulldogs. Following a three pointer by Grant, the Flames gained a seven-point cushion (9-2) with 14:41 on the clock.

With Butler trailing by one at the 12:14 mark, UIC turned on the heat and hit seven straight. Shooting 40 percent from behind the arc (4-for-10), UIC led 35-21 heading into the half.

Starting nine-for-ten from the field in the first ten minutes of the second half, UIC continued to produce on offense, extending its lead to 22 points (61-39) with 9:41 remaining in regulation.

Butler hit four treys in 15 minutes, but with the Flames shooting 63.6 percent from the field, UIC upset second-place Butler, 83-64.

The Flames are back in action Saturday, January 14th when they host cross-town rival and league foe Loyola at 3 pm at the Pavilion.
