Chicago, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago Head Men's Basketball Coach Jimmy Collins announced on Friday afternoon that Robert Kreps, a six-foot guard out of Maroa-Forsyth High School, has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Flames and will join the program for the 2007-08 season.
"With Robert Kreps we are getting a super athlete who understands two positions, is an aggressive scorer and an aggressive team player," said Collins. "He comes from a great high school program and an athletic family.
"Robert is a player we can depend on to come in and give us good minutes immediately."
Kreps is coming off a standout junior campaign in which he averaged over 19 points and four rebounds per game en route to All-Okaw Valley Conference and Illinois Class A All-State First Team accolades.
The sharp-shooter led the Trojans to a 31-3 record and a third-place finish in the IHSA State Tournament last season. In the tournament quarterfinals, Kreps totaled a game-high 29 points in a win over Carlyle. He was named to the All-Tournament team following last year's state tournament.
A multi-sport star, Kreps is also currently enjoying a standout season on the gridiron for Maroa-Forsyth, topping the 1,000-yard plateau as a receiver for the Trojans, who will play in the state quarterfinals on Saturday.
