Flames Fall To Evansville, 69-53

Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team fell 69-53 to Evansville at the Pavilion on Saturday. Senior Jacquay Holmes led the Flames in scoring with 17 points, while sophomore Nikki Grobbecker pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Senior Krystal Hugelier totaled 16 points, draining two treys on the night. Freshman Cassie Johnson added two blocks and seven Flames swiped at least one steal versus the Purple Aces.

Evansville's Rebekah Parker shot 53.8 percent from the field to guide the Purple Aces with 24 points. Parker hit 2-of-2 treys and knocked down 8-of-9 from the line.

Evansville jumped out to an early seven-point lead in the first half, 18-11. The Flames got within three points on a jumper by Jacquay Holmes (25-22) with 3:12 left in the half, but UE posted a 7-1 run for a 33-23 advantage heading into halftime.

Despite inching within four points at the 13:47 mark in the second half, Evansville sparked another run (9-1) for a 13-point lead (52-39). The Purple Aces picked up their first road win of the season, topping UIC 69-53.

Evansville shot 60 percent (6-for-10) from beyond the arc and 86.2 percent (25-for-29) from the line.

The Flames travel to Evanston on Wednesday, Nov. 29 for a 7:00 p.m. matchup against Northwestern.
