Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team rolled past Bradley on Friday night, 83-69, at the Pavilion. Five players scored in double figures with freshman Cassie Johnson leading the pack with 14 points. Johnson (7-for-7), Jackie Parker (3-for-3), Briana Hinkle (2-for-2) and Ashley Hluska (2-for-2) each shot 100 percent from the field for a combined 30 points.
Senior Jacquay Holmes totaled 13 points and a team-high seven boards. Senior LaShonda Grant chipped in with 12 points while fellow senior Krystal Hugelier added 10. Parker tied her career-high with five steals and notched a season-high 12 points on the night.
Bradley jumped out to a 14-2 start in the first half. Down by ten, Parker drained seven points and grabbed two steals in less than 30 seconds to cut the deficit to five points, 16-11. Trailing by one point, senior Kelly True gave the Flames the lead on a trey with 11:22 on the clock.
The Flames extended their lead to 11 points late in the half, but Bradley chipped away to head into halftime down by five, 37-32.
UIC continued to produce offensively in the second half. Trailing by 12, Bradley's Devyn Flanagan sparked a run with seven straight points (52-45). The Flames turned on the heat on defense, holding the Braves to eight points in over nine minutes of play and gradually pulling away for an 83-69 victory.
"Defense wins games," said head coach Lisa Ryckbosch. "We held them offensively in the second half, which turned the tide. We played UIC basketball tonight."
UIC faces #17 DePaul on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 4:00 p.m. at the Pavilion.
