Chicago, Ill. - A late push earned #17 DePaul a nine-point (74-65) win over the UIC women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon. Senior Krystal Hugelier picked up a team- and season-high 24 points, shooting 75 percent from beyond the arc (6-for-8). Three DePaul players notched double-doubles with Allie Quigley leading the pack with 23 points and ten boards.
UIC guard LaShonda Grant added 14 points and five steals. Senior Jacquay Holmes totaled nine points, seven rebounds and three steals versus the Blue Demons.
Hugelier kicked off the contest with three straight treys to give UIC an early 9-6 lead. Trailing 13-6, DePaul's Missy Mitidiero drained two quick three pointers, followed by a layup from Caprice Smith for a 16-14 advantage.
DePaul led by nine at the 5:29 mark, but UIC sparked an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to three points. The Blue Demons answered with seven points in one minute for a 41-33 advantage at the half.
The Flames continued to battle back in the final 20 minutes of play. UIC got within three points three times in the second half, but a late push earned DePaul the 74-65 victory.
"I was proud of the way that the team played today," said UIC head coach Lisa Ryckbosch. "DePaul capitalized on lapses that we committed, which proved to be very costly."
UIC concludes a four-game homestand on Wednesday, Dec. 20 before heading into Horizon League action on Thursday, Dec. 28 at UW-Green Bay
