Cedar Falls, Iowa - In a three-game stretch on the road, the UIC women's basketball team fell to Northern Iowa, 66-50, on Sunday afternoon. Senior LaShonda Grant led the Flames with nine points, while sophomore Nikki Grobbecker added eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Panthers were guided by senior Tara King with 19 points and 11 boards. King shot 75 percent (3-for-4) from three-point land and hit 7-for-14 from the field.
After Northern Iowa hit the first bucket of the game, the Flames went on an 8-2 run for the early lead. UNI took an eight-point advantage (18-10) after sinking nine straight points with 11:38 on the clock.
Junior Nicole Rinaldi ended the run on a short jumper in the paint. Trailing by 17 late in the first half, UIC notched five unanswered points to cut the deficit to twelve at the end of 20 minutes of play.
The Panthers continued to produce offensively in the second half, while holding UIC to a .324 field goal percentage. Northern Iowa picked up its second victory of the season with a 16-point win over the Flames (66-50).
The Flames conclude and three-game road trip on Thursday, Dec. 7 when they face Wisconsin in Madison at 7:00 p.m.
