Milwaukee, Wis. - Despite a late push in the second half, the UIC women's basketball team fell to UW-Milwaukee on Saturday afternoon, 86-79, at the Klotsche Center. Four Flames scored in double figures with senior LaShonda Grant leading the team with 22 points and five rebounds.
Senior Jacquay Holmes also notched five rebounds and added 14 points on the afternoon. Freshman Jessie Miller totaled 15 points, shooting 55.5 percent from the field. Senior Krystal Hugelier picked up ten points and a team-best five steals against the Panthers.
UW-Milwaukee was paced by sophomore Traci Edwards with 28 points and 20 boards.
The Panthers posted a 6-0 run to start off the first half, but UIC drained seven straight, including a three pointer from Miller for a one-point advantage (7-6) at the 15:42 mark.
The Flames notched their second lead of the game with 7:22 on the clock, but Panther senior Megan Rogers regained the lead with two successful trips to the free throw line (21-20).
UW-Milwaukee closed out the first half with a 29-22 advantage after posting an 8-1 run in the final minutes of play.
UIC began chipping away at UWM's lead with three treys in the first two minutes of the second half. On a fast break layup from Miller, plus the foul, the Flames recorded six straight points for the lead (38-37).
The Panthers answered with three consecutive three pointers. UWM continued to spark offensively, shooting 60 percent from the field in the second half. Despite a late push, the Panthers topped the Flames, 86-79.
The Flames return to Chicago to host conference foes Cleveland State on Jan. 4 and Youngstown State on Jan. 6 at the UIC Pavilion. Each contest is set for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
