Chicago, Ill.- Senior Veronique Meunier picked up her first all-around title of the season as the UIC women's gymnastics team toppled Midwest Independent Conference rival Southeast Missouri State at the UIC Physical Education Building on Saturday night.
UIC bounced back from a rough trip to San Jose State last weekend with their season-best tally against SEMO, posting a 194.200 in victory. The Redhawks turned in a team tally of 191.725.
Without one of their leading all-arounders in freshman sensation Annie Kachman (thigh), UIC needed a boost from another source. Meunier proved to be just that, winning the vault title with a 9.775 and earning a bars victory with a career-best 9.9 en route to a first-place 38.875 in the all-around.
Freshman Sarah Jane Mayhan also stepped up in a huge way, winning her first career crown with a balance beam victory and a personal-best 9.725 on the apparatus.
Jessie Jaworowicz and Rachael Zelinski ensured that UIC would earn a victory in all four individual events. Both gymnasts turned in 9.775 scores to share the title with SEMO's Alison Ezell and Sandra Blake.
Two other freshmen proved to be clutch as Zandre Labuschagne placed second on vault (9.750) while Ashley Thurston earned a runner-up showing on uneven bars (9.850).
Jaworowicz and Zelinski also looked sharp on beam, as Jaworowicz turned in a 9.7 for second while Zelinski was right behind at a 9.675.
Regine Charron took third on bars (9.825), while Jessica Panos earned the same finish on vault with a 9.7.
The Flames return to the Physical Education Building next Saturday against MIC foe Texas Women's University beginning at 7:00 p.m.
