Women's Basketball Falls To UW-Milwaukee

Chicago, Ill - A second half surge from UW-Milwaukee gave the Panthers a 65-58 win over the Flames Thursday night at the Pavilion. Junior LaShonda Grant picked up a season-high 27 points and grabbed five steals against the Panthers.

Junior Kelly True pitched in ten points and led UIC with seven rebounds. Krystal Hugelier added eight points and senior Chrissy Dizon added five steals in her final regular-season home contest.

Freshman Traci Edwards posted a double double with 13 points and ten boards for the Panthers. Molly O'Brien paced UWM with 17 points and Nichole Drummond chipped in 14 points in the win.

After trailing the first three minutes of the first half, UIC hit five consecutive points for a 10-9 advantage. Sparking a 10-0 run, the Panthers took the lead with 7:20 on the clock.

On a foul and a couple of free throws from junior LaShonda Grant, the Flames tied it up at 24 all. UW-Milwaukee answered on a trey from Molly O'Brien, heading into halftime with a one-point lead (27-26).

The Panthers jumped ahead early in the final 20 minutes, shooting 46.7 percent from the field. With 16:55 remaining, the Flames surged forward on a 6-0 run. UW-Milwaukee cut the deficit on two straight three-pointers, taking a 41-40 lead on a jumper by Emily Markert.

The Panthers continued to expand the gap on an 11-2 run. In the last minute of play, the Flames made one last burst to trail by five, but UWM held on for the 65-58 win. UIC moves to 13-13 overall and 9-6 in Horizon League action.

UIC concludes regular-season play this Saturday, February 25th when they travel to take on Detroit at 1 pm. With a top four seed heading into the Horizon League tournament, the Flames will host their opening contest of the league tourney on Thursday, March 2nd at the Pavilion at 7:00 p.m.
