UIC Drops Loyola On The Road, 79-66

Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team picked up its sixth league and third straight victory on Saturday afternoon after dropping Loyola University at Chicago, 79-66. Beating her previous record of 13 points, sophomore Nicole Rinaldi marked a career-high 16 points versus the Ramblers.

Besides Rinaldi, three UIC players scored in double figures with senior Chrissy Dizon pacing the Flames with 21 points. Kelly True added ten points and LaShonda Grant netted 19 points, hitting 4-of-8 from three-point land.

Jenna Real led the Ramblers 22 points. Emily Ponder added 16 points, pulling down eight rebounds and Marquise Hanser posted 13 points.

The Flames sparked the first half with a 22-8 burst, but the Ramblers responded with eight consecutive points to trail UIC 34-22 with 5:59 on the clock.

Cutting UIC's lead to eight points with 4:08 remaining, the Flames hit three layups in the last minute of the half to grab a 48-33 advantage.

Shooting 52 percent from the field in the second half, UIC only allowed LUC to cut the lead to 12 points in the first 13 minutes.

Loyola's Marquise Hanser hit a three pointer to cut the deficit to less than ten points with 5:57 remaining in the game, but UIC pulled away from the Ramblers late in the half to pick up its sixth league win this season, 79-64.

UIC moves to 10-11 overall and 6-4 in Horizon League action. The Flames travel to Ohio next week to battle Cleveland State on February 9th at 6:00 pm and Youngstown State at 1:00 pm on February 11th.

2-0 versus YSU and CSU at the UIC Pavilion earlier this season, these games mark the second match-up between the Flames and the two universities.
