Chicago, Ill.- Rain couldn't dampen the day for the UIC men's tennis team, as the Flames went undefeated en route to a 7-0 shutout of Youngstown State in their Horizon League opener at the UIC Outdoor Courts on Sunday.
UIC (4-8, 1-0 Horizon League) captured the doubles point with three wins and added to the early one-point advantage early and often with a sweep of the singles slate.
Ivan Kovalev rallied from a close 7-5 first-set loss to take the second set and the tiebreaker en route to a No. 1 singles win over Scott Kathary.
UIC cruised the rest of the way with five straight-set wins.
Youngstown State fell to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in league play.
UIC returns to action this Saturday at Wright State in Dayton, Ohio.
