Chicago, Ill. - In a confrontation between two squads that will vie for the Horizon League title later this fall, the UIC volleyball team outlasted Loyola in five games (30-26, 24-30, 30-22, 27-30, 15-11) at the Flames Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon as play continued at the 2006 Chicagoland Challenge.
With the win, the Flames evened their record at 1-1 on the year while the Ramblers dropped to 1-1 with the loss.
Senior Ambria Springer led the way for UIC with a team-high 17 kills, while adding seven digs and eight blocks.
Junior Katarina Nedeljkovic added a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. Junior Amanda Kenney finished with 11 kills and seven digs.
Senior Katie Kozak dished out 43 assists for the Flames.
UIC used its best hitting efforts of the match in decisive games three and five, hitting .364 (15-3-33) to take a 2-1 edge in the contest before closing out the nip-and-tuck affair with a .333 (6-1-15) attack percentage in game five.
Courtney Ashley paced Loyola with a match-high 25 kills, while also tabbing 16 digs.
UIC will be back in action later this evening when the Flames take on DePaul at 7:00 p.m. in the finale of the Chicagoland Challenge.
