Cleveland, Ohio, - The UIC volleyball team (10-10, 4-0) extended its current winning streak to five matches overall and four in Horizon League play after topping Cleveland State, 3-1 (21-30, 30-22, 30-24, 30-26), on Saturday in Ohio.
Notching her 12th double-double this season, junior Katarina Nedeljkovic guided the Flames with 16 kills and 12 digs. Senior Ambria Springer posted 16 kills and six blocks, while senior Katie Kozak owned a team-high .364 attack percentage. Junior Amanda Kenny continued to dominate for the Flames, recording nine kills and a team-high 18 digs and freshman Katerina Hanackova totaled ten kills in the win.
The Vikings controlled game one defensively, holding UIC to a .043 attack percentage, while owning a .279 clip. Tied at 15-15, Cleveland State grabbed the momentum, eventually picking up the 30-21 victory.
UIC turned it around in game two with consistency on both sides of the net. The Flames held the Vikings to a .121 attack percentage and forced CSU to commit six errors. UIC led the first half of the game before Cleveland State tied it at 14-14, but two consecutive UIC kills sparked a 7-1 run. The Flames went on to knot the match up at 1-1 (30-22).
Cleveland State took the early lead in game three. Trailing by two points (14-12), the Flames recorded two straight kills to tie it at 14-14. The lead would change three more times before the Flames posted a 4-1 run for the 30-24 win.
Recording a .317 attack percentage with 17 kills and 15 digs, UIC captured the match victory over the Cleveland State Vikings with a 30-26 decision in game four.
The Flames return home to host UW-Green Bay on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m., followed by a 4:00 p.m. showdown against UW-Milwaukee on Saturday, Oct. 7.
