Fairborn, Ohio - Wright State built a 22-point lead in the first half and never let the UIC men's basketball team back in the game, handing the Flames their first Horizon League loss of the season, 76-62, on Thursday night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.
Junior Othyus Jeffers paced UIC (7-9, 2-1) with 19 points. Juniors T.J. Gray (14 points) and Robert Bush (11 points) also scored in double figures for the Flames.
The Raiders (9-6, 2-0), who notched their fourth straight win, were led by Jordan Pleiman's double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Drew Burleson added 18 points, five of which came in an early 12-1 run by Wright State that started the team's first-half surge.
The Raiders shot 53 percent from the field and 67 percent from three-point range in the opening stanza while limiting UIC to just 33 percent shooting. Wright State led 41-21 at intermission.
The Raiders continued to connect in the second half, hitting 57 percent of their attempts to keep the Flames from mounting a rally.
Wright State controlled the boards, out-rebounding UIC, 36-23.
The Flames will have the weekend off before returning to the UIC Pavilion on Wednesday, January 10 to play host to #13 Butler at 7 p.m.
