UIC Falls To Youngstown State, 67-62

Chicago, Ill. - Despite a late push in the final minutes of regulation, the Flames fell to Youngstown State, 67-62. Senior Krystal Hugelier paced UIC on offense with 16 points against the Penguins. Hugelier shot 66 percent from the field (6-for-9) and three-point land (4-for-6).

Freshman Cassie Johnson led the Flames at the boards with a season-high ten rebounds, while adding seven points on the afternoon. Freshman Jessie Miller notched 12 points and five rebounds.

Youngstown State was powered by Heather Karner with 21 points, shooting 66 percent from the field and 100 percent from the line (8-for-8). Nikita LaFleur and Monique Godfrey each pulled down a team-best seven boards.

Trailing Youngstown State in the first ten minutes of the first half, Hugelier tied the game at 21-21 on a three pointer.

YSU then posted five unanswered points. Hugelier drained her second trey of the afternoon to end the run, but the Penguins responded with a three pointer from Karner.

The Flames headed into halftime with a six-point deficit, 37-31.

The Penguins extended its lead to 15 points at the 11:40 mark. UIC slowly closed the gap to trail by three points with less than a minute left in the contest, but would run out of time.

Youngstown State defeated the Flames, 67-62, to pick up its first league victory this season.

UIC travels to Butler on Thursday, Jan. 11 to battle the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m.
