Chicago, Ill.- UIC junior guard Josh Mayo (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville H.S.) was named to the 2007-08 Preseason All-Horizon League Second Team, the league office announced on Thursday, Oct. 11.
Mayo received the honor from a voting panel of Horizon League coaches, sports information directors and media members.
Mayo returns to the Flames' backcourt as the team's top returning scorer following a sophomore campaign in which he averaged 12.2 points per game in 27 contests. He led the Flames in assists last year with 3.2 apg while shooting 41 percent (49-of-119) from behind the arc.
Joining Mayo on the All-Horizon League Second Team are Loyola guard J.R. Blount, Cleveland State forward J'Nathan Bullock, Wright State forward Vaughn Duggins and Milwaukee forward Paige Paulsen.
The Preseason All-Horizon League First Team was made up of Butler guards A.J. Graves and Mike Green, Detroit guard Brandon Cotton, Green Bay forward Mike Schachtner and Milwaukee guard Avery Smith. Graves is the league's 2007-08 Preseason Player of the Year.
The UIC men's basketball team will face Lewis in an exhibition game at the UIC Pavilion on Nov. 6 at 8:00 p.m. before opening the 2007-08 regular season against Bradley at the Pavilion on Nov. 10 at 7:00 p.m.
