Box Score
Chicago, Ill.- Cesar Zambrano scored two goals and assisted on another in UIC's 4-1 victory over Wright State at Flames Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Flames (5-3-5, 1-0-3 Horizon League) broke a streak of three consecutive ties with the victory, which was UIC's first league win of the year. UIC also moved to 3-0 at home this season and extended its unbeaten streak at Flames Field to 14 games.
After a scoreless first period, UIC wasted no time getting on the board after intermission. Charlie Trout banked a ball off a defender and into the net just 54 seconds into the second half to give UIC its first goal in three matches and a 1-0 lead over the Raiders (2-11-0, 0-4-0 Horizon League).
But the home side was not done. In the 54th minute Trout served a ball into the box that was played to the left by Zambrano and into the possession of Baggio Husidic, who took advantage of an open look at the goal and beat Wright State keeper Tebias Mason with a quick strike to push the UIC lead to 2-0.
In the 82nd minute Stevan Jovcic made a swift run deep into the box and found Zambrano, who quickly sent a shot in for an easy goal and a 3-0 UIC lead.
The Raiders would get their only goal of the day in the 87th minute after a diving Jovan Bubonja stopped a shot by Tony Labudovski, but the ball rebounded to Brian Decker in the box for a clear shot into an open net.
UIC would regain its three-goal advantage just a minute later, though, as Zambrano blasted a shot from the top of the box that Mason could not stop from hugging net.
The four-goal effort was UIC's second-best offensive output of the season and the most goals scored at home since the Flames beat Wright State by an identical 4-1 tally on October 30, 2005.
Zambrano now leads UIC in goals scored (5) and total points (13).
UIC hits the road for a match at Green Bay this Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
