Green Bay, Wis.- A late Green Bay goal ended the UIC men's soccer team's four-match unbeaten streak on Thursday night, as the Flames were felled 1-0 by the Phoenix at a soggy Santaga Stadium.
UIC (5-4-5, 1-1-3 Horizon League) outshot Green Bay (9-2-4, 4-0-2 Horizon League) by a 12-8 count, including a 5-2 edge in shots on target. But the second shot on goal off a Green Bay boot was successful as Tosaint Ricketts netted the game-winner in the 80th minute on a low drive from 15 yards out.
Jovan Bubonja made a huge save to keep the match scoreless in the 40th minute, stopping a header with an amazing diving attempt.
The Flames created scoring chances, including a close last-ditch effort that nearly set up the equalizer. In the final minute of regulation Charlie Trout sent a cross with eyes on Pavle Dundjer up close to goal, but Green Bay keeper Adam Stikl made a nice play to intercept the pass.
UIC returns home this Sunday night to host Milwaukee at Flames Field beginning at 7:00 p.m.
