Chicago, Ill. - Senior Amanda Kenny notched 17 kills to help UIC volleyball (13-11, 6-7) upset Horizon League's No. 2 Cleveland State in five games on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Taylor Szatkowski owned a team-high 17 digs, while Kenny also paced the squad with a .289 attack percentage.
Junior Christin Hunt totaled 14 kills and sophomore Casie Sullivan added 13 digs against the Vikings. Sullivan also owned a team-best four service aces. Sophomore Lana Lobdell totaled 12 kills and powered the team at the net with a career-high nine blocks. Freshman Epiphany Davis contributed five blocks in the win.
Alexis Korovich totaled a team-high 21 kills for Cleveland State, while Jordan Bateman picked up 16 digs.
The Flames took an early 14-8 lead, but Cleveland State answered with six straight points to knot it at 14-14. Tied at 25-25, the Vikings recorded a 5-0 run for the win (30-25). Korovich paced CSU in game one with six kills and a .556 offensive clip.
UIC owned a large advantage halfway through game two, but Cleveland State rallied to get within one point (14-13). The Flames turned on the heat and posted a 16-7 burst to tie up the match at 1-1 with a ten-point victory (30-20).
UIC held Cleveland State to a .053 attack percentage in game three. The Flames forced the Vikings to commit ten errors en route to a 30-21 victory.
CSU dominated offensively in game four, posting a .382 attack percentage with 15 kills, while holding UIC to only seven. Korovich tabbed five kills and six digs in the 30-12 win to force the match into a fifth game.
The Vikings sparked a 5-1 run to begin game five, but the Flames recorded four straight to tie it at 5-5. Cleveland State took a one point advantage (7-6), but UIC united and handed the Vikings their third loss in Horizon League action this season. (15-9).
UIC heads to Butler and Wright State for its final regular-season road matches before the 2007 Horizon League Tournament in Milwaukee on Nov. 11-15.
