Box Score
Cleveland, Ohio- The UIC men's soccer team opened Horizon League play on Friday night with a 1-1 draw against Cleveland State at Krenzler Field.
UIC (4-3-3, 0-0-1 Horizon League) scored first when Baggio Husidic unleashed a hard shot in the 17th minute that bounced off a Viking defender and past keeper Nick Harpel for the UIC midfielder's first collegiate goal.
The goal was originally credited to Pavle Dundjer, but replays later determined that it was the younger Husidic who knocked in the shot.
The score remained that way until the 83rd minute, when a UIC foul in the box gave Cleveland State (3-5-2, 0-0-1 Horizon League) a penalty kick that was converted by Mitch Boyer to even the game.
Charlie Trout, Pat McMahon and Dundjer created some quality scoring opportunities late that were either stopped by Harpel or blocked.
Play got chippy as three yellow cards were issued in a five-minute span encompassing the end of regulation and the first minute of overtime. Mike Giffin and Alen Husidic of UIC and Audric Kilroy were all booked late.
The contest would end without either team scoring the golden goal.
Brandon Bilbrey made his season debut as a reserve after suffering a knee injury during the exhibition season.
UIC ends its road trip with a league match at Detroit this Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central.
