Cleveland, Ohio - UIC (10-9, 3-4) fell to Cleveland State (13-5, 6-1) on Friday night in Ohio in five games (30-27, 30-28, 25-30, 27-30, 8-15). Junior Christin Hunt paced the Flames with 19 kills, while freshman Epiphany Davis owned a team-high .393 attack percentage.
Davis also totaled 15 kills and a season-high nine blocks. Senior Amanda Kenny tabbed 11 kills, while sophomore Lana Lobdell added 13 on the night. Sophomore Katerina Hanackova led UIC with 17 digs and freshman Dana Van Syckle owned 13 digs and five blocks.
CSU's Alexis Korovich notched a team-high 14 kills and 19 digs. Jordan Bateman totaled 28 digs and Amy Benz led the squad with five blocks.
Cleveland State took an early five-point lead in game one, 11-6. Chipping away at the deficit, UIC knotted it at 16-16. Tied at 26-26, the Flames posted a 4-1 run to take game one, 30-27. UIC recorded a .350 attack percentage with 18 kills. Lobdell paced the Flames with five kills and a .833 offensive clip.
CSU led 16-11 before UIC sparked a 5-0 run to even the playing field. Trailing by one point late in game two, the Flames once again turned on the heat to take an 2-0 advantage in the match (30-28). UIC posted a .371 attack percentage and forced Cleveland State to commit nine errors.
The Vikings responded with a 30-25 victory in game three to avoid the sweep.
UIC trailed early in game four, but drilled two straight kills at the midpoint to take a 17-16 advantage. The score knotted several times late in the frame before Cleveland State gained a two-point lead, eventually tying the match at 2-2 (30-27).
CSU recorded a .421 attack percentage in game five to clinch the come-from-behind victory over UIC (15-8).
UIC concludes play this weekend in a matchup against Youngstown State on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1:00 p.m. CST.
