Chicago, Ill.- UIC junior guard Josh Mayo (Merrillville, Ind./Merrillville H.S.) was named the Horizon League Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 11, the league office announced on Monday.
Mayo scored a career-high 34 points in UIC's season-opening win over Bradley this past Saturday. The third-year Flames combo guard shot 11-for-17 from the field, including 3-for-4 from behind the arc, and a perfect 9-for-9 from the foul line to key the victory.
In addition to his impressive offensive output against the Braves, Mayo also helped hold Bradley guard Daniel Ruffin, one of the Missouri Valley Conference's top returning scorers, to just 4-for-15 shooting from the field.
