Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team fell to DePaul on Thursday night at the McGrath Arena in Lincoln Park, 74-35. The Flames were paced by sophomore Briana Hinkle with nine points and six rebounds.
Junior Nikki Grobbecker tied Hinkle with six rebounds, while sophomore Jessie Miller owned a team-best three assists against the Blue Demons.
DePaul's Natasha Williams picked up a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Allie Quigley was one rebound shy of a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Deirdre Naughton tied the game-high with 16 points and added a game-high five assists and two treys on the night.
The Blue Demons recorded an 11-0 run to kick off the first half. Hinkle ended DePaul's burst on a short jumper outside the paint. Shooting 41 percent from the field in the first 20 minutes of play, the Blue Demons headed into halftime with a 22-point advantage (41-19).
Naughton led DePaul's offense with 12 points. Williams was 5-for-8 (11 points) from the field, while also pulling down a team-best seven boards in the first half.
Although the Flames tightened up their defensive game in the second half to cause 12 turnovers, the Blue Demons captured their fifth straight victory on the season to remain undefeated (74-35).
UIC heads to Champaign, Ill. this Sunday, Dec. 2 to take on in-state rival Illinois at 2:00 p.m. CST.
