Chicago, Ill.- The UIC men's basketball team will host its lone exhibition contest prior to the start of the 2007-08 campaign this Tuesday night (Nov. 6) against Lewis at the UIC Pavilion.
The Flames and the Flyers will tangle at 8:00 p.m. as part of a preseason doubleheader with the UIC women's basketball team, which takes on Saint Xavier at 6:00 p.m.
The real action begins this Saturday night, when UIC lifts the lid off the 2007-08 regular season with a contest versus Bradley at the Pavilion beginning at 7:00 p.m.
The Flames return three starters to guide this year's squad, including 2007-08 Preseason All-Horizon League guard Josh Mayo. The 5-foot-11 junior out of Merrillville, Ind., is primed for his best year yet after a sophomore season that saw him average 12.2 points per game and a team-leading 3.2 assists per contest.
Also back are senior guard Robert Bush and junior center Scott VanderMeer. Bush came on at the end of last season, highlighted by a 21-point effort against Milwaukee in the Horizon League Tournament. VanderMeer was a one-man wrecking crew in the paint for the Flames, blocking a school- and league-record 111 shots in 2006-07.
Along with a sturdy set of returnees with starting experience in sophomore Spencer Stewart and seniors Jermaine Dailey and Karl White Jr., UIC will also feature a trio of talented newcomers in sophomore Jeremy Buttell and freshmen Robert Kreps and Tori Boyd.
