Women's Basketball Defeats Non-Conference Chicago State, 75-60

Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team tied the school record of nine consecutive wins after dropping non-conference Chicago State, 75-60, on Tuesday night at the Jacoby D. Dickens Center. Freshman Jessie Miller led the team with 17 points, hitting all seven free throws on the night. Senior LaShonda Grant pitched in 13 points, while Krystal Hugelier pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Senior Jackie Parker picked up a season-high ten points. Hugelier contributed nine points and swiped a team-best four steals. Senior Jacquay Holmes and sophomore Ashley Hluska each notched eight points in the win.

Chicago State's Chandra Timberlake paced the Cougars with 21 points and Jasmin Dixon added 20 points and a team-high seven boards.

Chicago State jumped out to an early 20-13 lead in the first half before the Flames sparked a 7-2 run to get within one point at the 11:51 mark.

UIC tied the contest at 32-32 on a free throw from Parker, followed by a short jumper from Hluska for the two-point advantage (3:10).

Leading by seven points with 1:32 left in the first 20 minutes of play, Chicago State hit three buckets to cut the deficit to three points at the half (41-38).

UIC shot 48.1 percent from the field (13-for-27) in the first half, while hitting 10-of 11 from the line.

The Flames held CSU to zero points in the first four minutes of the second half before Dixon hit a layup to end the drought.

UIC continued to produce offensively, extending the gap to 15 points (55-40) on two consecutive Parker buckets.

The Cougars cut UIC's lead to seven with eight minutes on the clock, but Holmes notched six consecutive points (66-56).

Chicago State made a final attempt with less than three minutes left in regulation, but UIC stepped up on defense to clinch its ninth straight victory. The Flames move to 16-9 on the year with the 75-60 victory.

The Flames return to the hardwood on Saturday, Feb. 17 when they face crosstown league rival Loyola at 1:00 p.m.
