Mayo Named Horizon League Player Of The Week

Chicago, Ill. - UIC men's basketball sophomore Josh Mayo was honored as the Horizon League's Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

The 5-foot-10 point guard helped the Flames to a pair of critical Horizon League victories that propelled UIC into a fourth-place tie in the final standings. Mayo averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 53 percent from the field in wins over UW-Milwaukee and Loyola.

Mayo took over the final two minutes in UIC's win at Loyola on Saturday as he scored the games final five points, including the game winner with 10 seconds remaining, in a 52-51 triumph. He finished the contest with a team-high 14 points while adding seven rebounds and three assists.

Mayo opened the week with 11 points, a career-high eight rebounds and three assists against UW-Milwaukee on Feb. 21.

For the season, Mayo is UIC's second-leading scorer (11.7 ppg) while he tops the team in assists (3.1 apg).

He is the second UIC player to be named Horizon League Player of the Week this season, joining T.J. Gray, who was honored back on Jan. 15.

Mayo and the rest of the Flames will be back in action on Tuesday when they open play in the Horizon League Tournament by hosting UW-Milwaukee at 7 p.m.
