Chicago, Ill. - UIC volleyball fell to Milwaukee (3-0) in its Horizon League opener on Friday night at the Flames Athletic Center. Senior Amanda Kenny led UIC with nine kills and 12 digs, while freshman Epiphany Davis dominated at the net with a team-high five blocks.
Sophomore Katerina Hanakcova also totaled nine kills and added 11 digs on the night. Junior Christin Hunt recorded a team-best .261 attack percentage with seven kills and four block assists.
Milwaukee's Jamie Gabrielson powered the squad with 13 kills. Maddie Sueppel recorded a .333 attack percentage with 11 kills. Becky Peters led the Panthers with a team-best .421 offensive clip and added nine kills and a team-high 19 digs.
Game one remained tight until the Panthers sparked a 6-1 run at the midpoint. UIC fought back to get within two points (20-18) on an attack error by Panther Natalie Schmitting, but Milwaukee pulled away late in the frame to take a 1-0 advantage (30-23).
Milwaukee posted a .333 attack percentage and totaled 20 kills en route to a 30-19 victory. UWM's Gabrielsen and Schmitting each totaled five kills in game two.
Tied at 10-10 in game three, the Panthers notched three straight points for the early lead (14-10). UIC chipped away at the deficit to get within two points late in the game, but that would be as close as the Flames would get as the Panthers captured the sweep (30-25).
The Flames continue their home slate in a matchup against Green Bay on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
