Women's Basketball Upsets Milwaukee, 62-59

Milwaukee, Wis. - The UIC women's basketball team snapped Milwaukee's five-game winning streak with a 62-59 victory on Wednesday night. The win marked the first time the Flames (6-11, 2-4) have dropped the Panthers (10-8, 5-2) in a regular season contest at the Klotsche Center since 1995.

Sophomore Jessie Miller notched a career-high 27 points to lead UIC. The sophomore was 10-for-15 from the field on the night, netting five three-pointers.

Sophomore Briana Hinkle added 12 points, while junior Nikki Grobbecker pulled down a team-best six rebounds. Freshman Taylor Manley added 10 points and a team-high three assists.

Milwaukee junior Traci Edwards tabbed a double-double with 14 points and 18 rebounds.

Miller tallied 19 points in the opening half to stake the Flames to a 31-27 lead at intermission.The Flames then turned up the heat offensively to open the second half, shooting 71 percent in the first five minutes to take a 12-point advantage (45-33) on Miller's fifth trey of the contest.

The Panthers would not go down without a fight, cutting the deficit to three with a 15-4 run in the final seven minutes. The Panthers had the ball with a chance to tie in the final moments, but the Flames tightened up on defense and did not allow Milwaukee a shot as time expired, preserving UIC's first road win of the season.

UIC heads back to Wisconsin for a matchup against Green Bay on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. CST.
